a pretty unusual sunday

today i went to watch The Odyssey by Christopher Nolan, alone. this was my first time going to a theatre to watch a movie all by myself.

the movie was great. imo, Nolan’s movies always seem to end at the start, in a way. i don’t know exactly why i think this, but in the ones i’ve watched so far, the small details in the dialogue and those extra few seconds where the camera stays still on an object, a character, or whatever—it all makes sense after the film has ended.

funny thing: i had booked a recliner for the first time, and the leg rest wasn’t working, so it was more or less a waste lmao.

i didn’t feel awkward at any point. i like doing things alone, and i’ve travelled solo and eaten at restaurants alone, but i always thought going to a movie theatre alone would feel awkward and weird. it was actually good. i enjoyed the movie and the overpriced nachos. the recliner was not worth it, though. pretty bad, pvr 🤦

while coming back, the weather was something else. it was dusk in the middle of the rainy season. when i left the theatre, the rain had either stopped or become light enough that i needed my rain jacket, but not the rain trousers. i always hate wearing those.

the ride home was really nice because of the weather and the colours—just enough darkness, just enough light, small raindrops, and wind. all the vehicles’ tail lights looked dreamy, and their reflections on the wet tarmac looked straight out of an Unreal Engine render.

there was also the busyness of that hour, with most of the work crowd going home. that hurry made the city feel alive. tyres moving through water, the wet road, brakes squeaking—I don’t know how, but i noticed all these small things on the way home.

i also went to an old, famous cold-drink house just to have a milk cold drink in the chilly monsoon evening while it was pouring outside. i liked it. i sat in a corner and slowly enjoyed my drink, then noticed a small wall behind the person taking orders. it had a camera vcr, a wi-fi router, a stabiliser, a bell, and a few other things. it was a pretty neat setup, mostly hidden away, but of course my nerdy ass noticed it.

overall, it was a pretty unusual sunday. i’ll definitely do more solo activities—not just travel or movies—in the future. let’s see.
